Healthy eating for digital nomads in Canggu

By The Solimans team · Yousri Soliman’s kitchen in Bali · Updated

The simplest way for a digital nomad in Canggu to eat healthily is to plan two meals a day and leave the rest to fun. Make breakfast and lunch protein-led and predictable, then let dinner be the warung, the beach club or the new café everyone is talking about. Most nomads don't struggle for lack of good food here; they struggle because every meal is a fresh decision made while hungry, on a scooter, between calls.

Why is it hard to eat well as a nomad in Canggu?

Canggu has some of the best food in Bali. It also has a few traps that catch people who work from laptops:

  • Decision fatigue. Choosing three meals a day from hundreds of cafés gets old fast, so you default to whatever is close.
  • Café defaults. Smoothie bowls, banana bread, pastries and big brunch plates are delicious and mostly carbs and fat, with modest protein.
  • Skipped meals. Deep work runs over, you skip lunch, then order something heavy at 4 PM.
  • Traffic. A 10-minute ride can turn into 30 at peak times, which makes "I'll grab something" less simple than it sounds.
  • Social eating and drinking. Coworking events, sunset drinks and dinners out add up across a month.

None of this is a problem once. Over a three-month stay, it is the difference between feeling sharp and feeling sluggish.

What does a healthy nomad day in Canggu look like?

A routine that works for many remote workers:

Time What Why
Morning Water, coffee, a protein-led breakfast Steady energy for focused work
Midday A planned lunch with 40g+ protein and vegetables Avoids the 3 PM crash and the late heavy snack
Afternoon Fruit, nuts, yoghurt or a shake if hungry Bridges the gap without derailing dinner
Evening Dinner out, cooked, or a second planned meal Keeps the social side of Bali

The key is that two of those meals are already decided before the day starts.

Prices below are typical ranges and change between places and seasons.

Café or brunch spot Around Rp 80K–150K, often plus tax and service Sometimes Social meals, working sessions

At a warung, choose grilled chicken or fish, egg, tempeh and vegetables over fried items, and go easy on the rice. Our calories in Indonesian food guide has approximate numbers for common dishes.

How does a meal plan fit a remote-work schedule?

This is where a meal plan earns its keep. The Solimans delivers twice a day, Monday to Saturday:

  • Breakfast run: around 9:00–10:00 AM
  • Lunch and dinner run: around 11:00 AM–12:00 PM

So breakfast lands as your workday starts, and lunch and dinner arrive together before noon. Put dinner in the fridge and it is ready whenever your last call ends. Sunday is the kitchen's day off; if you order seven days, Sunday's meals arrive with Saturday's delivery.

Delivery covers Canggu, Pererenan and Munggu, including Berawa, Batu Bolong, Echo Beach and Umalas. If you're staying further out, or need a set time, delivery can be arranged via Gojek.

Other details that suit nomad life:

  • Minimum two meals a day, five to seven days a week. Many people take breakfast and lunch and keep dinners free.
  • Pause or cancel with 24 hours' notice. Useful for trips to Uluwatu, Ubud or a visa run.
  • Pay online with QRIS, GoPay, OVO, DANA, ShopeePay, bank transfer or card, or order on WhatsApp.
  • Every meal shows kcal, protein, carbs and fat on the menu.

How do you stay on track when working from cafés?

Working from cafés is part of the Canggu routine, and the hours add up: a coffee, then a pastry, then lunch because you have been there three hours. A few tricks help. Eat a proper breakfast before you leave so you aren't working hungry. Order drinks without added sugar. If you'll be there over lunch, choose the most protein-led dish on the menu rather than the one that looks most photogenic. And on deep-work days, eat your planned lunch first, then head to the café for the afternoon session.

Quick habits that help

  • Drink water before your first coffee; the heat dehydrates you faster than you notice.
  • Keep fruit, nuts or yoghurt in the villa fridge for the afternoon dip.
  • Eat lunch away from the laptop when you can, even for 15 minutes.
  • Be careful with ice, raw salads and tap water if your stomach is sensitive; see how to avoid Bali belly.
  • Plan one or two big social dinners a week rather than every night.
